Microsoft has announced that it is collaborating with Ubisoft to resolve an issue associated with its recent Windows 11 update, which has been causing crashes in some games. As a precaution, the company has temporarily halted the release of this update for devices running the affected games. After users reported problems following the installation of the Windows 11 24H2 update, confirmed over the weekend that certain games might become unresponsive or show a black screen. The games affected include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Ubisoft has provided a temporary workaround for Star Wars Outlaws, although there may still be some persisting issues, according to Microsoft. “To protect your Windows update experience, we have implemented a compatibility hold on devices with these games installed,” the company detailed on its support blog. “Such devices will not be offered the option to install Windows 11, version 24H2 through the Windows Update release channel.” They added, “We advise against manually attempting to update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this problem is resolved.”
