Sonos is initiating a restructuring initiative aimed at reducing approximately 200 jobs within the organization. Interim CEO Tom Conrad conveyed this update to the team during a call and subsequently shared the information publicly on the company’s website. For more details, you can read the announcement on the Sonos Newsroom.
Conrad explained that the company is “restructuring our Product organization into specialized groups focused on Hardware, Software, Design, Quality, and Operations, moving away from dedicated business units tailored to individual product categories. This streamlined structure will enable cross-functional project teams to enhance our core experience and introduce new products.”
Sonos has been facing challenges both financially and in the public’s perception, especially following the release of a flawed product app last year. The company had previously let go of 100 employees in August. Following that, both the CEO Patrick Spence and the Chief Product Officer departed from the company. The details of the CEO’s departure can be found here, and information about the Chief Product Officer’s exit is available here. The company has since adjusted some of its product release plans. Recently, rumors emerged suggesting that Sonos might be launching a long-anticipated streaming box later this year, as indicated here.
