FromSoftware to Launch Multiplayer Co-op Spinoff Set in the Elden Ring Universe in 2025

Highly anticipated: FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki recently mentioned that the company wasn’t planning a sequel to the tremendously successful Elden Ring. However, this doesn’t exclude other initiatives related to the IP. A trailer unveiled at The Game Awards teased that Miyazaki was hinting at an upcoming multiplayer spin-off.

FromSoftware introduced Elden Ring Nightreign at the 2024 Game Awards this week. This standalone co-op spin-off of one of the most widely acclaimed PC games is set to launch in 2025, with a network test planned for February.

This year’s Game Awards featured several unexpected world premiere trailers, but Elden Ring Nightreign could be among the most distinctive. While multiplayer has always been a central element of FromSoftware’s “Souls” games, a co-op-focused spin-off is relatively new for the company and the series.

The game allows teams of up to three players to explore Limveld, an open-world map set in a universe parallel to Elden Ring’s environment. Limveld contracts each night over a three-day cycle, drawing inspiration from battle royale games, with a boss appearing each evening. The game offers eight playable character types.

Nightreign might also feature roguelike components. Players can collect relics and enhance their characters after death. Additionally, the map alternates with every session.

Players can sign up for the February network test on Namco’s website. Pricing specifics for the test and the completed game remain undisclosed, but the beta is only available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. The final release is also scheduled for Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The Game Awards unveiled several other forthcoming games, too. CD Projekt Red showcased a stunning cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4, pre-rendered using an undisclosed Nvidia graphics card, possibly the forthcoming flagship GeForce RTX 5090. Sony finally disclosed an April 3, 2025, release date for the PC version of the critically acclaimed The Last of Us Part II. Sony’s PC ports have sustained a fairly good track record concerning performance and features, although TLOU2 perpetuates a concerning trend of requiring a PSN account.

Other major revelations included a new Onimusha game, a sequel to Okami, the first new Virtua Fighter game in nearly two decades, the next title from The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog, and much more.
