LG’s Gram laptops are making a return with a new lineup of updates just in time for CES 2025. Celebrating a decade of being part of LG’s thin and light lineup’s offerings, the latest models are equipped with AI enhancements and performance boosts while retaining their renowned portability.
Making their debut at CES are four new models: two versions of the Gram Pro, a new Gram Pro 2-in-1, and the budget-friendly Gram Book. The initial version of the Gram Pro features an Intel Core H-series (Arrow Lake) processor suited for standard laptop tasks and some gaming. The second variant utilizes an Intel Core Ultra V-series (Lunar Lake) chip designed for AI tasks. The latter is also a Microsoft Copilot+ PC, integrating a suite of AI features expected from that series, such as Recall, Live Captions, Cocreator, and Windows Studio Effects.
Even if you decide against the Copilot+ option, LG’s AI offerings are available in most of the other new models, excluding the Gram Book. These AI features are divided into two categories: on-device and cloud-processed tasks. The on-device tools feature a simplified chatbot derived from LG’s EXAONE large language model. Additionally, there’s LG’s Time Travel, which functions similarly to Microsoft’s Recall by retrieving web pages, documents, videos, and audio files you’ve accessed. However, it remains to be seen how LG will address potential privacy concerns similar to those Microsoft faced with Recall.
The cloud-based AI offerings include Gram Chat Cloud, a more advanced chatbot (powered by GPT-4o) that can integrate with your calendar and email services.
The Gram Pro comes with a 17-inch (Arrow Lake) or 16-inch (Lunar Lake) screen boasting a 2,560 x 1,600 LCD display. Its refresh rate can reach up to 144Hz. Both models support up to 32GB (LPDDR5X Max 8,400MHz, Dual Channel) of RAM and 2TB of storage.
The Arrow Lake model is poised to be a competent gaming laptop with RTX 4050 graphics. The AI/Lunar Lake version, however, only includes integrated Intel graphics, though it’s the more portable option, weighing in at 2.73 pounds compared to the Arrow Lake model’s 3.26 pounds.
LG earned a CES 2025 Innovation Award for the latest Gram Pro 2-in-1. The premium configuration features a 16-inch screen with a 2,880 x 1,800 OLED display (120Hz variable refresh rate), while more affordable versions are limited to a 2,560 x 1,600 LCD (144Hz VRR). The 2-in-1 model includes a wirelessly rechargeable stylus and, true to its name, can convert into a tablet mode.
Lastly, the Gram Book is designed as an entry-level model to help LG “expand its US market presence.” It features a 1,920 x 1,080 15.6-inch LCD with a modest 60Hz refresh rate. Housing an Intel Core i5 CPU coupled with integrated Intel graphics and up to 16GB of RAM, it is the least powerful of the new releases. Despite being the heaviest, weighing 3.75 pounds.
Unfortunately, LG has not yet disclosed pricing details or release dates for any of the new models, leaving us in suspense regarding how budget-friendly the Gram Book will be.
