Notion Acquires Skiff: A Step Towards Privacy-Focused Productivity

In a strategic move, last month productivity software company, Notion launched its much awaited calendar based on Cron. However, the latest development has got Notion users all excited. Taking a further step towards enhancing its privacy-focused services, Notion has acquired Skiff. Skiff is a platform offering end-to-end encrypted file storage, documents, calendar events and email.

Skiff was founded in 2020 and has received a total of $14.2 million in funding over two rounds from investors such as Sequoia Capital, alongside other prominent names in the industry including the chairman of Alphabet, a former CEO of Yahoo, and co-founders of Eventbrite, amongst others.

As Notion aims to broaden its privacy-focused offerings, the acquisition of Skiff signifies a significant development in the company’s commitment to data security and privacy. With Skiff under its wing, users of Notion can expect a more secure and private digital experience in the near future.

Under the new acquisition, Skiff products will be integrated into Notion and will join its expanding suite of privacy-centric productivity features. The addition of Skiff falls in line with Notion’s previous acquisitions, such as its purchase of Cron and Automate.io in the past.

In an official statement, Notion COO, Akshay Kothari, shared his excitement about integrating Skiff into the Notion family. He lauded Skiff’s attention to detail and its steady commitment to providing secure and productive digital environments.

Although Skiff has announced that its own product will shut down in six months, users will have the option to easily export or migrate their data to other suitable services. This transition period comes as part of Notion’s ongoing efforts to ensure a seamless, secure experience for its users.

In the increasingly security-conscious world of digital productivity, Notion’s move to acquire Skiff demonstrates a promising step towards more private, secure, and efficient digital experiences for all its users.
