Okta acquires password manager Uno, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, to enhance personal tier development

Okta Takes Password Management to the Next Level with Acquisition of Uno

In an exciting move to enhance its identity management offerings, U.S.-based giant Okta has announced its acquisition of password management app Uno. Uno, founded by former Google engineer Parteek Saran, made waves earlier this year with its design-centric approach to password management. Now, with Okta’s backing, Uno’s talented team will help speed up the public launch of Okta Personal, a password manager specifically tailored for consumers.

Uno’s unique selling point was its ability to simplify password management through one-click login on the web. By securely storing user credentials and allowing quick access to one-time codes, the app aimed to make security effortless for users. With Okta’s deep expertise in security, identity, and AI, the merger promises to revolutionize password management on a consumer level.

Although details of the deal size remain undisclosed, Okta has confirmed that the Uno app will be discontinued, and the team will join forces to develop Okta Personal. This development comes after Okta conducted beta testing of its personal password management platform in the U.S. and Canada. Soon, it plans to expand the availability of the app to other countries, providing a simple yet robust solution for users worldwide.

Okta Personal, which currently offers a web app and an iOS app, will introduce features such as easy credential sharing and autofill. Additionally, the company hints at the imminent rollout of family sharing capabilities. While it remains to be seen whether Uno’s features, such as simplified reading of one-time passwords from email, will integrate into Okta Personal, the collaboration between the two teams promises further innovation in the realm of identity and security.

Uno’s existing user base and their migration to Okta Personal have yet to be addressed by Okta. However, with Uno announcing the discontinuation of its app effective November 1st, users can expect a smooth transition to Okta’s enhanced password management solution.

As Okta hosts its partner summit today, attendees eagerly anticipate news on its upcoming tools and the company’s groundbreaking work with generative AI. With the acquisition of Uno, Okta solidifies its position as an industry leader in identity management, promising the delivery of secure and user-friendly solutions for the ever-evolving digital landscape.
