Sabrent Introduces Rocket Nano M.2-2242 SSD With Speeds Up to 5 GB/s

Sabrent frequently captures headlines with the release of ultra-high-performance SSDs for enthusiast-grade desktops, yet this week it unveiled a product that diverges from its usual lineup: a compact M.2-2242 SSD tailored for the Lenovo Legion Go handheld as well as ultra-thin laptops that lack the space for larger M.2-2280 drives. Despite its departure from enthusiast-grade hardware, the Rocket Nano manages to deliver respectable performance and storage capacity.

The Sabrent Rocket Nano 2242 (SB-2142) SSD employs the Phison E27T platform, a PCle 4.0 x4 controller optimized for DRAM-less mainstream SSDs, combined with 3D TLC NAND memory in this instance. Offered in a 1TB model, the SSD is capable of read speeds reaching 5 GB/s. Given that the Phison E27T controller supports read speeds up to 7 GB/s, it seems that the Rocket Nano doesn’t fully exploit the potential of the controller’s capabilities.

Targeted at users looking to upgrade the Lenovo Legion Go gaming console, certain Lenovo ThinkPad laptops, and other devices accommodating M.2-2242 SSDs but not the larger 2280 variants, the Rocket Nano positions itself as a significant enhancement over slower, stock drives often found within these devices. Furthermore, the Rocket Nano 2242 is compatible with systems that have a PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot, broadening its applicability.

The 1 TB Sabrent Rocket Nano 2242 SSD (SB-2142-1TB) is priced at $99.99, aligning with the cost of similar 1 TB drives in this form factor and performance bracket. The SSD is currently listed on Amazon at $101.
