Sony to Hold Next PlayStation State of Play on May 30

We’re approaching that early June period previously occupied by E3 which will showcase numerous game events, including the Summer Game Fest, an Xbox event, an Ubisoft Forward, and a Nintendo Direct. Sony, however, is getting a head start on all of those. A PlayStation State of Play is set for Thursday, May 30. It begins at 6PM ET and can be viewed on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.

Interestingly, Sony is not using the PlayStation Showcase branding that it typically employs for its annual late-May stream. The company hasn’t revealed much in terms of first-party PlayStation games for the months and years ahead, and will kick start its lineup here.

The stream will last over 30 minutes and feature 14 titles coming to PS5 and PS VR2. It will include some PlayStation Studios games set to release later this year.

It’s likely that Insomniac’s Wolverine game will be showcased. There are rumors that the Silent Hill 2 remake will also be featured, although Konami might save that for its own Silent Hill Transmission event, which follows the State of Play at 7PM ET.

I’m personally hoping Sony will finally announce Ghost of Tsushima 2 — the timing seems ideal since a stunning PC port of the original game dropped this month. Haven’s Fairgame$ and Firewalk’s Concord seem likely to appear, while we can expect some excitement from Bungie for The Final Shape, an expansion that will close out the Light and Darkness saga of Destiny 2. Reports also suggest a new Astro game from Team Asobi is on the horizon.

We are aware that Guerrilla is working on more games in the Horizon universe, with rumors of a Lego spinoff. Sony has numerous other studios working on unannounced projects, including Housemarque, Bluepoint, Santa Monica Studio, Bend, Media Molecule, and, of course, Naughty Dog. Let’s hope we hear from some of these studios during the event.
