Uber Introduces New Shuttle Service Between JFK Airport and Manhattan

Uber has introduced new shuttle routes for travelers in NYC. Just under six months after launching bus rides between LaGuardia Airport and Manhattan, the company now adds four routes connecting John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with Manhattan.

Starting Thursday, you can book up to four seats on any of the new routes. Reservations can be made as early as seven days in advance or as late as two minutes before your ride. Each bus accommodates a maximum of 14 passengers at launch. Similar to air travel, you may bring one piece of luggage weighing up to 50 lbs and a personal item that can fit in your lap or under the seat. Upon boarding, the driver will check your identity using a QR code and PIN.

The four new routes feature stops at either Port Authority Terminal and Grand Central Terminal or Chinatown and Atlantic Terminal. Each of these two Manhattan routes is further divided into two additional paths — one to JFK’s Terminal 4 and another to Terminal 5. The buses will operate every 30 minutes, from 5 AM to 10:45 PM, throughout the week.

The JFK shuttles will generally charge “up to $25” for a one-way trip, but Uber is launching these new rides with an introductory fare of $10 for one way until April 30.

Since launching its LaGuardia routes last fall, Uber claims to have booked hundreds of thousands of shuttle seats. While it offers a convenient (and often cheaper) alternative to traditional taxis, there’s also a complimentary public transit shuttle between the airport and the subway. As Redditor u/Kufat noted about Uber’s shuttles in October, “This is for tourists who think they’ll get stabbed the moment they enter the subway.”
